“Then he said to the disciples, the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into the harvest.” – Matthew 9:37-38
We have been back from India for almost a week. The multitude of sight and smells are still resonating in our minds, and many special moments live on in our hearts! It was amazing to see how God used each person on the mission team in unique and wonderful ways. No one person was more important than another. During the trip we saw the needs: the need for prayer, and the need for financial support.
I often wonder why God placed me where I am at this particular time. Has that question ever crossed your mind? Why did he place me in the United States? I often feel guilty and find myself asking the question, “Why am I so materially blessed and others around the world less fortunate?” It became clear to me on this trip that he put me here so that I would be able to help those who are less fortunate. This wealth that he gave me should be given back to those less fortunate. It should be given back to the Kingdom. It should be given back to the One who blessed me with it to begin with. My wealth from an American perspective is minimal – but in comparison to the majority of the rest of the world – it is unimaginable. Especially in India. The body of Christ is not broken into different nations. It isn’t the “body of Christ in America” or the “body of Christ in India”; it’s just the body of Christ.
How is it we will spend millions of dollars every year on dog Halloween costumes in America, but can’t seem to justify making a financial sacrifice in order to support missions for the spread of the Gospel? I’m appalled and saddened by the reality of it.
Here is my challenge to the American church – to American Christians – what can we do to support Grace Christian Ministry and others like them who are doing Kingdom work for the glory of God? What are we will to sacrifice for the sake of the gospel?
The answer initially has to be to pray fervently for them. But we also need to be praying for discernment for what God lays on our heart to give of our financial wealth and our time.
Jesus said in Matthew 9:37-38, “Then he said to the disciples, the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into the harvest.” Will you be a laborer? Will you play your part in sending out more laborers into the harvest of India?
